Goal & Purpose

By 2050, it is expected that the population across Sub-Saharan Africa will reach nearly 2.2 billion people with urbanization reaching nearly 60%. This coupled with an increase in income levels will see a massive waste bubble – currently cities are already struggling to properly manage the waste sector with approximately only 43% of waste collected.
While this is a significant challenge, this also presents a great opportunity to re-develop the waste value chain from that of a linear business model to one that is circular in design. By working with SMEs, the narrative surrounding the sector can be shifted from that of a dirty business reliant on political support to one of high impact. FS Impact Finance is currently exploring ways to attract commercial investment into a high-growth, high-impact sector for the African continent.
